Category: Main -> Volunteers

Question
·  What type of volunteers are needed?
·  How does your foster program work?
·  Do you have to be a certain age to volunteer?

Answer
·  What type of volunteers are needed?

There are a wide variety of needs with which volunteers can help.  Electricians, plumbers, construction workers, painters, lawn care workers... you name it, we need your services!  Dog walkers, animal bathers, dish washers, laundry workers, newspaper folding... we need you as well!  The shelter is understaffed and the employees rarely have time to spend quality time with shelter pets.   If you want to volunteer at the shelter, please contact the director at 205-755-9170.

HSCC needs volunteers to foster, transport, help with fundraisers and many other tasks.  Contact The Friends of Chilton Animals through their Facebook page.

·  How does your foster program work?

Only dogs and cats that have been tagged by a rescue are eligible for our foster program through our volunteer network.  Foster periods typically last 2-3 weeks.

Some rescues require at least a 2 week period out of the shelter before an animal can be transported to them.  In addition, transport details have to be arranged and all necessary medical/health procedures have to be completed prior to transport.

·  Do you have to be a certain age to volunteer?

Yes, for the safety of our volunteers and animals and as an insurance requirement, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age or accompanied by a parent.
