Humane Society of Chilton County FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Category: Main -> Volunteers

Question
·  What type of volunteers are needed?
·  How does your foster program work?
·  Do you have to be a certain age to volunteer?

Answer
·  What type of volunteers are needed?

There are a wide variety of needs that volunteers can help with, if you have a skill related to construction or electrical work you can be assured that we need your services.   We also need people willing to take the dogs and walk them or play with them.  The shelter is understaffed and the employees rarely have time to spend with the dogs.   If you want to volunteer at the shelter contact the director at 205-755-9170.

We also need volunteers to foster, transport, help with fundraisers and many other needs.  Contact The Friends of Chilton Animals through their facebook page.

·  How does your foster program work?

Only dogs and cats that have been tagged by a rescue are eligible for our foster program through our volunteer network.  Foster periods typically last 2-3 weeks.

Some rescues require at least a 2 week period out of the shelter before the animals transports to them, and it takes about that length of time to get the transportation details arranged.

·  Do you have to be a certain age to volunteer?

Yes, for the safety of our volunteers and animals, volunteers must be at least 16 years old.  This is also a requirement on our insurance.
